OUR VINEYARDS AND WINE MAKING PHILOSOPHY

Arterra Wines: “Art & Terra (land)” is the Art of the Land. The wines are nurtured in an environment where they can evolve into a wine of distinction that truly represents the great lands where the grapes originated, and the great people behind them.

 

We have three of the best vineyard sites and growers, producing the highest quality fruit known to Virginia. The vines are tended with vigilant canopy management practices that establish vine infrastructure prioritizing optimal ripening of the fruit. The wines, harvested late in the fall, undergo a spontaneous Native Yeast Fermentation — utilizing yeasts that grow naturally on the grapes in our Virginia Vineyards. This process requires extra attention to detail, but produces a distinct wine that cannot be duplicated.

 

Seven Oaks Vineyard is owned and operated by Mark and Madeline Skinner in Philomont, Virginia. They have a long history working with winemaker Jason Murray and a site that produces the highest quality fruit, including Malbec, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. We thank Mark and Madeline for their significant role in helping Arterra Wines get started.

 

Sycamore Springs Vineyard is owned and operated by Mike Newland in Waterford, Virginia. Mike also has a long history working with winemaker Jason Murray and produces the highest quality Petit Verdot and Tannat for Arterra Wines.

 

Arterra Estate Vineyard is being planted in 2015 on the winery property in Delaplane with amazing mountain soils and will be yielding high quality fruit in 2017, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Petit Sirah, and Chenin Blanc.
